Guide for Residents

Addressing & Zip Code

All addresses in the Town of Lodi, including all of Okee and Harmony Grove, are served by the Lodi Post Office.  That means that every address in the town is:  Lodi, WI  53555

Burning Permits (for Leaves, Brush & Yard Waste)

The Wisconsin DNR requires a burning permit in Columbia County for any open fires (that are outside of campfire rings, fire pits or burn barrels) between January 1 - May 31, unless the ground is completely covered with snow.  Permits are available online.  There is no charge for a burning permit and a single permit is good for the entire year.

No burning permit is required between June 1 - December 31.  However please always take appropriate fire control and prevention precautions.

Please Be Courteous of Your Neighbors When Burning

There are no Town ordinances that place any further restrictions on burning leaves, twigs or brush.  However residents are asked to keep in mind the wind and smoke conditions and how that may be affecting other residents.  Please be courteous of your neighbors and discuss your burning plans with them ahead of time if possible.

Burning is only for dry, natural, plant material yard waste.  Please do not burn garbage!  All garbage should be delivered to the Transfer Site.  The Transfer Site will also be happy to accept any leaves, grass clippings, twigs or small brush under 4" in diameter where it will be burned and/or composted for resident use.  Cardboard, paper and newspaper are recyclable and should also be delivered to the Transfer Site.

Vehicle License Plate Renewal - No Wheel Fee / Tax for Town Residents

The City of Lodi passed a $20.00 wheel tax that became effective in May 2016.  This fee is collected for them by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation as part of renewing vehicle license plates.

This fee does NOT apply to residents of the Town of Lodi.  If you are a Town of Lodi resident, your vehicle registration renewal may incorrectly include the City of Lodi's $20.00 fee.

Department of Transportation explains that when a person purchases a vehicle, the dealership may incorrectly fill out the license paperwork if they assume that the buyer lives in the City of Lodi when they actually live in the Town of Lodi.  If the vehicle buyer doesn't notice that distinction at the time of sale, the error will appear during the next year's license plate renewal.

If you already paid the $20.00 fee and your vehicle is kept at a residence in the Town, the Department of Transportation stated that they can help correct that error.  They advise contacting them at (608) 264-7447 and selecting prompt 2.
